Marina di Torre San Giovanni
Torre San Giovanni is a coastal town located on the Ionian side of the Salento in Puglia, near Ugento. The place is characterised by a white sandy beach and a sea rich in marine flora and fauna of particular interest.
At the foot of the Torre San Giovanni can still be seen the remains of ancient walls dating back to the Messapian period, around 500 B.C. These remains suggest that this place was important since the time of the Messapian town of Ozan, the current Ugento.
The tower is located on a small promontory jutting into the sea, which divides the coast of Marina di San Giovanni in two parts. To the north extends the rocky part, pretty low almost everywhere, while in the south after the port, begins a sandy long beach.
Marina di Torre San Giovanni can be reached from the town of Ugento by using the SP65 or from the south using the SP91 and from the north using the SP90 or the SP88 that runs along the Ionian coast.
