Chieuti to Rodi - Peschici

The coast of Puglia from Chieuti, on the border with the Molise region, towards Rodi Garganico is low and with long sandy beaches. Along this same stretch of coast there are two of the most most important marine lakes in Puglia, the Lake of Lesina and that of Varano.

Between Rodi Garganico and Peschici the coast starts to get higher for the presence of the Gargano promontory. Here, thanks to the existence of this promontory, the coast feature some beautiful bays with sandy beaches.

 

Marina di Chieuti

The beaches of Puglia, on the border with Molise, begin with this plain beach still untouched and with few services available. It is not very crowded due to the proximity to the most popular beaches of Rodi and Peschici, located to the east.

Lesina Marina

Lesina Marina is an area with coastal dunes and pine forests. There is here a long and deep sandy beach lapped by clear and clean sea. Inland, a pine forest and dunes between the sea and the Lesina lake. Lesina Marina offers services such as hotels, residences, camping and bungalows. Also some well organised lidos located on the beach provide good services for bathing.

Lago di Lesina

The Lesina lake is a typical long coastal lake never more than 2 metres deep. Lying between the lake and the sea there is a 27 km strip of land with dunes and a long sandy beach. The area is well preserved and untouched.

Torre Mileto

Torre Mileto is located on the final part of Lesina lake going east. It takes its name from the nice tower located on a small peninsula. The area is of great interest for the presence of Mediterranean vegetation, rich marine species reefs and freshwater springs.

Cagnano Varano

Cagnano Varano has a unique small port that extends along the opening of the Varano lake. Just before the harbour, to the west, there is a small but deep beach without any particular service.

Lago di Varano

Varano lake, located just after Lesina lake is a salt lake separated from the sea by a long strip of land which is in fact an island. This strip is covered with dunes, Mediterranean vegetation and a long beach, sometimes narrow sometimes a little deeper, with some organized lidos here and there up to Foce Varano, located to the east.

Foce del Varano

Foce del Varano rises on a small island that separates the Varano lake from the Adriatic Sea. It is a small fishing village and a tourist destination thanks to the presence of the lake, the untouched beaches with blue sea and the vast green spaces.

Baia di Santa Barbara

The Santa Barbara bay is a long stretch of sandy beach located between lake of Varano and the town of Rodi. The area is mostly untouched with few hotels and camping. Most of the beach is free to access although there are some organised lidos, of which, some belong to the hotels located inland.

Rodi

Rodi Garganico is an ancient town colonized by Crete, Greece and, in the VIII century B.C., by the Rhodes. It stands on an high hill overlooking, on the west side, the bay of Santa Barbara and on the est side, a wide and beautiful beach with a series of organised lidos with all the necessary services for bathing.

From Rodi to Peschici

Along the SP 89 Garganica, which runs closed to the sea, the coast is not particularly interesting with some low cliffs and no beaches, but after few miles begins a long beach that stretches to the Pineta Mazzini. This beach is for the most part free to access with just few organised lidos.

Baia Calenella

In the Calenella bay, located between two rocky headlands, there is a long and beautiful beach with clear blue sea. There are here various organized lidos for renting umbrellas and sun chairs. Also bars and parking spaces. Much of the beach is still free to access and use. It is at a walking distance from Peschici.

Peschici

Perched on a massive rocky promontory, Peschici is a popular tourist attraction with its small harbour, hotels and campsites. The baia of Peschici, located west of the city, has a long beach with fine sand and clear sea. The beach offers all the necessary services, from renting umbrellas to bars, restaurants and parking. Easy to reach and at a walking distance from the centre of Peschici.
