Brindisi to San Cataldo

The first interesting place along the coastline that starts from south of Brindisi town to San Cataldo, is the seaside resort of Casalabate, already inside Lecce coastline. Starting form here the coast has quite a few interesting beaches, most of which are well served by some lidos for renting umbrellas and sun chairs as well as bars, restaurants and parking. There are also interesting nature protected areas such as that of Torre Rinalda and that of Bacino of Acquatina.

 

Brindisi

Brindisi is an important port of south Italy and also the second most important airport in Puglia. There are many companies that fly here from many important cities in Italy, such as Rome and Milan, and from many important European countries such as UK and Germany. If you are planning to go to the centre or south of Puglia this should be your airport of destination.

Casalabate

Casalabate is a coastline village located on the north side of the town of Lecce, at about 22 km from the city. The coast of Casalabate extends for about 2 km with sandy inlets, cliffs and a crystal clear sea. The use of the beaches is free for most of the coast, which provides, however, equipped lidos with services for bathing.

Torre Rinalda

Torre Rinalda takes its name from the lookout tower built in 1500 century which, unfortunately, is in a state of decay. The coast is made predominantly of sandy beaches with emerald green and crystal clear waters.

Torre Chianca

Torre Chianca takes its name from the sixteenth century tower located on its coast. The area is made of long sandy beaches and, inland, by the presence of two basins, Idume and Fetida. At a short distance from the coast, visible deep in the sea, there are interesting archaeological remains, including some columns, dating back to the second century AD.

Bacino di Acquatina

The oasis of Acquatina is a wetland with an area of 100 hectares, surrounded by dunes, Mediterranean vegetation and with three large ponds. The oasis is entrusted to the care of the Department of Biological and Environmental Science, University of Salento.

Frigole

Frigole is one of the most beautiful places along this part of the seaside. Its beach, in fact, immersed in the landscape of Salento, is a beautiful one with white sand and a crystal clear sea. This beach is, for the most part, equipped with bathing facilities.

San Cataldo

This is a small seaside resort with a beautiful beach among the busiest in the area. San Cataldo was an important port of trade with the East during the Roman period. It was called Port Adriano after the Emperor Hadrian, who ordered its construction. In the vicinity of the lighthouse, there are still archaeological remains of this ancient port.
