Torre S. Giovanni to Gallipoli

This part of the coast south-west of the Pulia is mainly characterized by cliffs with many sandy beaches of outstanding beauty.

Inside the Baia Verde, south of the city of Gallipoli, there is the protected area of the 'Parco Naturale Regionale Litorale di Punta Pizzo e Isola di Sant'Andrea'. This park, in addition to the large green areas located inland, includes a long coastline with a beautiful beach lapped by crystal clear waters.

 

Marina di Torre San Giovanni

Torre San Giovanni is a coastal town with a white sandy beach and a sea rich in marine flora and fauna of particular interest.

At the foot of the Torre San Giovanni can still be seen the remains of ancient walls dating back to the Messapian period, around 500 B.C. These remains suggest that this place was important since the time of the Messapian town of Ozan, the current Ugento.

The tower is located on a small promontory jutting into the sea, which divides the coast of Marina di San Giovanni in two parts. To the north extends the rocky part, pretty low almost everywhere, while in the south after the port, begins a sandy long beach.

Baia Verde

Baia Verde is a stretch of coastline that extends south of Gallipoli. The northern part of this coastline consists of a long sandy beach with various organized lidos, while the part to the south, consists of low reefs.

Along the south part of Baia Verde starts a nature reserve called 'Parco Naturale Regionale Litorale di Punta Pizzo e Isola di Sant'Andrea'.

Gallipoli

The city of Gallipoli jutting out into the Ionian Sea, is divided into two parts: the mainland town and the city centre located on an island connected to the mainland by a bridge built in the seventeenth century.

Of great interest is the nature island of 'Sant'Andrea, about a mile off the historical centre, characterized by the presence of wild animals, such as the Seagull Corso.
