The south-west coast of Puglia from Taranto to Marina di Ginosa

Taranto to Marina di Ginosa

The coastline around this city of Taranto, an important port in southern Italy, has no particular interest. To find again an interesting coasline you will need to go north towards Castellaneta Marina and Ginosa Marina. Both seaside resorts are very beautiful and with long sandy beaches.

Along this part of the coast there is also the Nature Reserve of Stornara that stretches for several kilometres up to the border with the Basilicata region.

Taranto was a important Greek colony and later became an important Greek colony of the Magna Graecia. Unfortunately of its glorious past almost nothing is left, but if you find yourself nearby you should visit the National Archaeology Museum. It contains extraordinary finds such as figured terracotta objects, collections of ceramics and priceless gold jewellery.
