Murge Orientali nature reserve
The park
The Nature reserve Murge Orientali is located along the Eastern Ionian side of Murgia hills, between the towns of Martina Franca and Massafra.
It is an area characterized by a high number of ravines and limestone rocks. The ravines have special importance here because they created niches that preserve rare species of flora.
The vegetation of the reserve is primarily made up of woods of oak, holm and fragno trees. Also wild orchids can be found.
Inside the reserve there are several mammals such as wild boars, foxes, hedgehogs, weasels and hares. Among the birds, the robin, the oriole and the goldfinch.
